What if there was no EDSA?

If the EDSA revolution did not happen, there would have been a two to four years of civil war between the Marcos loyalist forces and the anti-Marcos coalition composed of the communist, leftist and all those against the dictatorship. The political warlords in the different provinces would hold on to their fiefdoms, and would have allied with the pro or anti-Marcos forces, depending on their inclination and comparative advantage. Thousands would have died. The economy would have deteriorated further fueling more social unrest. Capital and people would be leaving the country in droves, the rich to the US and Europe, the middle class and the poor to neighboring Asian countries.

In the fourth or fifth year, the US and other democratic countries would have intervened to bring order to our country, as the remnants of the Marcos dictatorship would have gone out of the country by then. Maybe Cory Aquino would also have been president, but the country would be in shambles. The country would have been set back by 10 years economically and socially. The per capita GDP in 1986 after the EDSA revolution was $591 and reached $1,000 in 1995. In 2014 it had reached $3,000 and by 2016 will be $3,500. If EDSA did not happen, this would still be in the $2,000, like it was in 2005. We would not have the BPOs now but five years later, and we would not be able to afford all the malls that are existing now, nor afford and watch the Taylor Swift and Madonna concerts that our millineals are now enjoying.

The situation in Syria, Ukraine, and some African countries that are now undergoing a civil war is exactly the situation that would have happened in the Philippines, if EDSA did not happen. It must really have been "divine intervention" that allowed EDSA to happen and saved our country from a worse situation

If EDSA did not happen, Marcos would still have become too ill to rule in 1987 and eventually die in 1989. The power struggle would lead to disaster.
