Tom Cruise & Jerry Bruckheimer Talking Top Gun 2
Jerry Bruckheimer went on Twitter to tout a meeting with his Top Gun star Tom Cruise about the long-in-the-works sequel to the iconic 1986 action movie directed by Tony Scott. Bruckheimer flew down to New Orleans to meet with Cruise and talk about a possible plot line, were told. Cruise is in Louisiana right now filming Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
The pair have said for years they have wanted to do a sequel and have been dancing around the idea for about three decades. A source with knowledge of the goings-on said today that its closer now to becoming real than its been in 30 years. In 2013, Bruckheimer said that Scotts suicide put a damper on moving forward, but that the studio (Paramount) was still high on the possibility.
Top Gun, of course, helped launch Cruise into the Hollywood stratosphere and further established Bruckheimer and his then-producing partner (the late) Don Simpson as moviedoms biggest tentpole producers of their time.
David Ellison was talking up a sequel on the junket tours last year for Skydances Terminator: Genisys, and in November Cruises co-star Val Kilmer said he was offered a role.
